About Me
Marie Gipson, MD
Dr. Marie Gipson is a multilingual board-certified psychiatrist and child and adolescent psychiatrist who places her patient’s interests first. She believes that a psychiatrist’s role is, at its most basic, one of stewardship of a person’s unlimited potential.

She is a proud graduate of Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) in New Orleans where she was deeply involved in caring for the underserved including volunteering as a counselor for children with different abilities and a student doctor in the local homeless shelter. She completed her general psychiatry residency at the LSU-Ochsner Psychiatry Residency Training Program and her child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital/HMS where she also served as Chief Fellow.

Her clinical background and experience spans treating patients in inpatient adolescent psychiatric units, community health centers, and outpatient psychiatry including specialty clinics. She strongly believes in approaching mental health and wellbeing through comprehensive interdisciplinary collaboration. She has previously served as the lead physician for both inpatient adolescent units at Boston Children’s Hospital and Stanford University School of Medicine. She then brought her experience and expertise to Refresh Mental Health/Optum Behavioral Care where she served as the Medical Director of Massachusetts and New Hampshire. In this role, she provided supervision and consultation to the medical and therapy team while serving in clinical and technology committees. She continues participate as part time faculty at Massachusetts General Hospital where she provides clinical care and serves on the the MGH AAPI Coalition Committee.
She currently has an academic appointment as Instructor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School (HMS).

Her clinical interests and focus include depression, anxiety, OCD spectrum disorders, tics, BFRBs, insomnia and trauma. She is passionate about providing gender and sexual minority affirming care. She also has an interest in minority mental healthcare including in the AANHPI populations and international college students.

Dr. Gipson is a fluent English, Mandarin Chinese, and Cantonese Chinese speaker. She is also conversational in Penang Hokkien and Malay. Born in New Orleans and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, she has personal experience in multiple cultural transitions and assimilation which has further enriched her clinical understanding and care for her patients.
